Heart attack at 46: “I didn’t recognize the symptoms that appeared a week earlier…

The story of a 46-year-old lady suddenly hit by a heart attack is making the rounds of the web. Always in perfect health, the protagonist of this story could not imagine the drama that was about to be consumed. Yet, about a week earlier, there had been no shortage of small alarm bells.

Heart attack, or myocardial infarction, is a serious medical condition that occurs when blood flow to a part of the heart is blocked, usually due to a clot that obstructs a coronary artery. This prevents the heart muscle from receiving oxygen and nutrients, causing progressive necrosis of the heart cells.

If left untreated promptly, the heart attack can lead to permanent damage to the heart at best. Cardiovascular diseases are the main cause of death in Italy, with significant consequences on public health. According to data from the Istituto Superiore di Sanità, in our country the pathologies of the circulatory system cause 240,253 deaths per year, or 41.1% of the total deaths.

Of these, ischemic diseases of the heart, including acute myocardial infarction, are responsible for 81,429 deaths, accounting for about 32% of deaths from cardiovascular disease. Over the past three decades, the overall number of deaths from these causes has increased, mainly due to ageing and population growth

This 46-year-old lady decided to share her story on social media to raise awareness of important issues such as prevention.
