Tom stepped closer.
“You better be careful, lady.”
Sarah looked at him.
“Is that another threat?”
Tom stopped.
For a moment, he realized he might have gone too far.
But his pride wouldn’t allow him to back down.
“You’re interfering with an officer performing his duties.”
Sarah shook her head.
“No. I’m witnessing an officer failing his duties.”
At that moment, Mike, the taxi driver, finally found the courage to speak.
“Ma’am… thank you.”
Tom immediately turned toward him.
“You want to make this worse for yourself?”
Mike went quiet again.
Sarah’s expression changed.
She was no longer just observing.
She was investigating.
“Sergeant Davis,” she said.
Tom froze.
“How do you know my name?”
Sarah didn’t answer.
She simply looked at the badge on his uniform.
