My SIL Held Her Wedding at My Grandma’s Lake House but Destroyed the Garden and Turned the Yard Into a Dump – So I Brought Her a Wedding Gift She’d Never Forget

Kelsey sighed. “Nobody said anything about your garden.”

“You just said flowers.”

“I meant arrangements.”

“The answer is no.”

Her mouth fell open. “You would let my wedding be ruined when you have a perfectly good property sitting empty?”

“It isn’t sitting empty. I use it.”

Zac entered the kitchen just as Kelsey began crying. She was good at crying without disturbing her mascara.

“The answer is no.”

“My wedding is in two days,” she told him. “Nadia would rather protect a bunch of plants than help your sister.”

Zac looked at me. I knew that look.

The one asking me to be the reasonable person again.

Still, I knew what losing the venue would mean. Deposits, guests traveling from other states, months of planning gone in one night.

So I agreed.

But I made Kelsey repeat every condition.

“Nadia would rather protect a bunch of plants than help your sister.”

“No cutting flowers,” I warned. “No moving the garden borders. No heavy furniture on the soft part of the lawn.”

“Of course.”

“Every piece of trash leaves with you that night. Nothing inside the house gets moved or altered,” I added.

Kelsey finally looked up.

“Nadia, I understand how houses work.”

I should have taken that sentence as a warning.

“No cutting flowers.”
